Basic knowledge of office furniture materials

Office furniture material classification:

(1) aluminum: aluminum is one of the nonferrous metals category, due to the wide application, use of aluminum in the furniture is very wide: screen frame, suspension beam, table legs, trim, handle, trough and chair cover, tube and so on, can be used to design and use of the myriads of changes! The following is the following:

There are two kinds of aluminum and die-casting aluminum alloys. Among them, aluminum ingots with purity up to 92% are the main raw materials. Meanwhile, metal elements, such as carbon, magnesium, silicon and sulfur, are added to increase the strength, hardness and wear resistance.

1.1 aluminum: aluminum, aluminum and other common screen as it is by extrusion molding process, the molten aluminum ingot and other raw materials in the furnace, through the extruder extrusion mold to outflow molding, it can also profile extrusion of different sections. The main performance is strength, hardness and wear resistance according to the national standard GB6063.

Shortcomings: warping, deformation, black line, convex concave and white line. The designer and the mold design and production process are reasonable, so that the above defects are not obvious. The inspection defect should be carried out according to the national regulations, that is, the sight distance 40~50CM is used to distinguish the defects. The unoxidized aluminum material is easy to rust, resulting in a decrease in performance. The longitudinal strength is less than that of iron products. The wear resistance of the surface oxide layer is easier to scrape than that of the uncoated coating. The cost is higher.

1.2 die casting aluminum alloy

The die casting alloy and profile processing methods are different. Their raw materials are aluminum ingots (purity 92% or so) and alloy materials, which are melted into the die casting machine by melting furnace. The shape of the die-casting aluminum product can be designed as an imaging toy, with different shapes and convenient connections in various directions. In addition, it has a high hardness.

(2) hardware: the concept of "hardware" is a popular saying. The standard classification should be divided into two main categories: black metal and non-ferrous metal. It has tubular, rod like, plate like, line and corner types in furniture.

2.1 black metal parts

It mainly refers to iron products.

Advantages: resistance to deformation, high strength, good wear resistance, high hardness, low price, long life. Is it high carbon iron alloy, carbon steel, low carbon steel, medium carbon steel; it is divided into round tube, square tube, angle iron, steel types. The pipe is mainly used for chair products; for square beam, bracket; baffle plate is mainly used for table, screen plate, pendant, bracket, metal cabinet, door etc..

2.2 nonferrous metal parts

It refers to all metal parts except iron products such as aluminum, copper, zinc, stainless steel and so on. It has a feature which is not easy to rust, and its strength is worse than black metal. Many furniture used include aluminum, aluminum rods, stainless steel pipes, stainless steel plates, copper plates and zinc plates.

Stainless steel products: stainless steel stainless iron and stainless steel is divided into two categories: often referred to as "430" stainless iron, "304" is a pure stainless steel, one of their distinguishing method: magnet test, "430" can be the magnet, and a "304" is not. The copper alloy used in the furniture is more brass, it is a kind of zinc - containing copper alloy. The price of pure copper is slightly higher than "304" stainless copper 30~40%, while brass is 20% lower than pure copper.  The hardness and strength of copper alloy are slightly higher than that of stainless steel, but they are easily fractured and brittleness is larger. The application of copper parts in the furniture is mainly for hand pulling and preembedding screws. In order to prevent "rust", pure copper is usually used after electroplating, but brass is not needed, and a large area of furniture is less.

Zinc products: pure zinc products are less used and are mainly used in combination with zinc alloy or iron and steel. Such as galvanized sheet, electrolytic plate and so on. The use of furniture is less, the reason for the poor strength of zinc products. Zinc alloy accessories such as eccentric buckle, structural parts connection point (part) and so on. Titanium and zirconium alloys: such genera are more expensive metals. They are mostly used for furniture in the form of electroplating. They are used for high-grade handle, hinge and high barrier exposed connectors or hotel furniture. The cost of electroplating is about 40% higher than the cost of chromium plating, but the appearance is similar to gold and silver products. The wear resistance is very good and will not rust.

2.3 casting metal

Many of the furniture and hardware products are castings, such as handle, door hinge and so on. In 2007, many casting processes were popular in the market, such as investment casting, die casting and casting. The casting materials are brass, stainless steel, zinc tin alloy and aluminum alloy. The characteristics of the casting products: exquisite, special and so on. The disadvantages are single cost and high cost. The cost of casting process is different. The casting cost is high to low, investment casting is high and low cost is: Die Casting and investment casting. The casting defects in the products: the production cycle increased, product by 2~3 process in order to make qualified parts and accessories, but also according to the different requirements for electroplating, or polishing, wire drawing, sandblasting, injection and other surface decoration processing.

(3) rubber and plastic

3.1 plastic parts

Examples of plastic products used in furniture are very common, but there are many kinds of materials: ABS, PP, PVC, PU, POM, PA, PMMA, PE, PS and PC, and different materials have different adaptation ranges.

Name: ABS engineering plastics, can be used for connecting piece, seat back, seat board, it is able to perform plastic electroplating (water plating) main raw materials.

PP: the name for polypropylene, five-star pin, handrails, floor mats and high strength is not necessary connections. Shortcomings: poor wear resistance, low surface hardness.

PVC Name: PVC, mainly used for sealing, inserted condition. It is adapted to extrusion molding, and PVC material belongs to non combustible material in plastic parts, and the stability of processing temperature is poor, especially the color stability is not good.

Name: PU polyurethane. It is mainly used for armrest (foamed) accessories.

Name: POM steel. It is mainly used for wear-resistant parts such as foot pads, casters, door hinges, paging, etc. The performance is wear-resistant, pressure resistant, but the dimensional stability is poor.

Name: PA nylon. It is mainly used as a place where the wear-resisting and life expectancy of the foot mats, the five star claw and the casters are high.  Features: wear resistance, pressure resistance, high strength, long indoor life, individual models such as PA66, high temperature resistance up to 2200, the drawback is that it is easy to change performance, breakage and weatherability in the sun.

PMMA:: organo glass (commonly known as subunit). There are five kinds of transparent materials in plastics, and PMMA is one of the most transparent ones. When the workpiece is cut, it has acetic acid taste, and it is easy to process and deform. It can be changed by bending with boiling water. Shortcomings: the surface is easily scratched, the hardness is low, the bending is easy to crack, the price is more than 20% higher than the ABS.

PC: polycarbonate is commonly known as polycarbonate. The variety is also transparent material, with high surface hardness, scratch resistance, strong impact resistance, high strength and good weather resistance (that is, not afraid of sunlight). The screen sun plate in the furniture is the hollow extrusion molding of this material. Features: high price cost, about 40% higher than PMMA.
